What ALF keeps, and what it never asks for, in plain words. Last changed September 29, 2026. [check: date of the version Kyle approves]
What ALF keeps
Everything ALF stores about you fits in one list:
- Your name and email address, from Google, so ALF knows which units are yours.
- The town or region you type on the form, if you type one. It is remembered so you need not type it again.
- Your time zone, so dates and times on your units read right.
- Your units: every version of each one, every change you make, and the tag ALF gives each change (what kind of change it was, such as narrowed scope or added scaffolds). This is what ALF learns from, and it is shown to you, and only to you.
- Notes for next time, when you write them.
- Which curriculum you follow and whether you spell things the US or the UK way.
That is the whole list. ALF does not keep your Google photo, your contacts, or anything else from your Google account. Your units stay until you remove them.
ALF never asks for student information
ALF is for teachers only. There are no student accounts, no class lists, no grades, and no field anywhere that is meant for a student’s name or details. Every unit is written about a class, not about the people in it. When you edit a unit, describe groups, not students, and keep names out; the editor reminds you of this. Anything you type into a unit is stored as part of that unit, so this is the one place the rule depends on you.
Nothing is sold
ALF does not sell, rent or trade anything about you, and shows no advertising. Your edits exist to make your next draft better. They are not shared with your school, your district, or anyone else. [check: brand.md says the future school view is aggregate and never names a teacher; leave it out until it exists?]
Who else handles your data
- Google, in two ways. Sign-in: Google tells ALF your name and email address. Drafting: your form answers, and later the unit you edit, are sent to Google’s Gemini models to write and tag the draft. ALF uses the paid tier, which Google says it does not use to improve its products. [check: confirm the key is on a billing-enabled project and Google’s current terms say this]
- Vercel, which runs the site, in the United States.
- Neon, which stores the database, in the United States. [check: region chosen when the database is made]
No analytics service is in use. [check: change this line when PostHog goes in after Oct 17] If you teach outside the United States, your data is still stored there. [check: UK and Dubai teachers: the UK GDPR gives them rights to see and erase their data; say how (the email below) and whether anything more is needed]
Deleting everything
To remove a unit, use the unit’s own menu. It is erased at once, with every version, edit and tag it held. To delete your whole account, email hello@alflearninglabs.com from the address you signed in with, and everything on the list above is erased within 30 days. [check: hello@ or kyle@, and how many days]
If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it.
